Croke Park Final

The 26th October2016 was a very special day for our school. The senior football team had made it through to the Cumann na mBunscol The girls had trained every Tuesday since the beginning of September and matches took place most Wednesdays.

The match took place after school and many of the parents came along to support the players. With the financial assistance of the parents’ association we hired buses and set off for Croke Park. The classes had spent time designing flags and headbands, painting school crests and making banners in advance of the game.

The girls on the football team travelled in their own mini bus with Ms. O Connor and Ms. Twomey. They were allocated an area under the stands in which to leave their kits and everyone prepared and waited for the match to begin. In the meantime the supporters made their way to the Cusack stand.

The team had an exciting and nervous wait before making their way to the pitch. They were greatly reassured by the enthusiastic roars of the supporters who were a very colourful and noisy bunch! As the team made their way onto the pitch the supporters rang out with

” We are yellow, we are green,
We are Corpus Christi team.”

The girls played a valiant match against Scoil Garrán Mhuire, Goatstown and were narrowly beaten by a single point.
